This video shows buoy testing activities run in the EUMER laboratory of the University of Salento. Here, the project partner “Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia” tested a buoy equipped with piezoelectric systems capable of transforming the mechanical energy transported by controlled waves produced in the test channel.
In particular, the minibuoys tested in the EUMER laboratory for energy production are used to supply energy, the mechanical energy produced by wave motion, to the sensors that verify the conditions of the cages. The experimental set up in the laboratory is used to test which is the most suitable combination between the different types of flexible piezoelectric devices to be connected to the minibuoy.
This activity is aimed at the development of innovative solutions for the production of energy in an off-shore environment, in order to make the breeding cage energetically autonomous.
